We are so excited to welcome you to QLSP, and many of you to Guilford for the first time! On this page you can find helpful resources, links you might need, and information about QLSP Pre-term Orientation.

Reminders for Incoming Students:

  • First year students- You will need to register for the “Let Your Collegiate Life Speak” initiate course as your first 3-week class at Guilford. This course will be with other Ethical Leadership students (Bonner Scholars, Ethical Leadership Fellows, and QLSP). (If you are in the Honors program at Guilford, let me know and we will connect about the 3-week)
  • Begin to plan your travel to Guilford to arrive on Wednesday, August 10th from 9am-12pm
  • Fill out this Orientation Form by July 1st to help us prepare for your arrival
  • Reach out with any questions, thoughts, or concerns you have!

QLSP Orientation Info & Packing list!

(Rough Outline) Pre-Term Orientation Schedule:

Wednesday, August 10th-

  • 9am-12pm Students arrive on campus and check-in at Founders Hall- then drop/unpack their belongings in dorm rooms
  • 12-1pm Lunch with families in the Caf (Founders Hall, there will be a sign in sheet at the door)
  • 1-2:30pm Some time with family/to unpack/settle/shop etc.
  • 2:30pm Gather with your things at the Friends Center parking lot to pack up cars and do some introductions/schedule review
  • 3-4pm Depart for Timberlake Earth Sanctuary– settle/gather
  • 4pm Tour of Timberlake
  • Make dinner together
  • Welcoming activities/bonfire gathering

Thursday & Friday, August 11th-12th-

  • Full days of QLSP orientation which will include meals, programming, service work (likely some trail maintenance), free time, and community time.
  • Return to Guilford Campus by 4pm Friday evening for dinner at the Caf
  • 7-8pm Hang with current students/QLSP alum
  • 8-10pm Optional: Board Game Night with Honors students
  • Stay in the dorms Friday night

Saturday, August 13th- (W/Bonner and ELF students)

Sunday, August 14th-

  • Breakfast
  • 11am Worship with Local Friends New Garden Friends Meeting (family/friends welcome)
  • Lunch in the Caf
  • 1-1:30pm Closing QLSP Orientation Programming/Intention Setting
  • (Week of Welcome activities begin for 1st year students at 2pm)

Note: For students participating in other programs (Bonner, ELFS, Honors, Athletics) the leaders of these programs and myself have been in contact, and we are collaborating to make sure you can get the most out of all our orientation activities. Please reach out if you have questions about this, but we have a plan!

Pre-Term Orientation Packing List: Please note that you will be dropping all your college luggage in your dorm and simply storing things there until we return to campus on Friday evening- please have these items packed separately/easily accessible when you move in to be ready to leave campus at 2:30pm the afternoon of August 10th.

  • Water Bottle
  • Journal
  • Sturdy footwear (for possible short hikes/exploring and service work)
  • Phone & charger (there will be limited wifi on the grounds, but you should have cell service, and there is electricity in the barns)
  • Pants (for any service work we do)
  • Clothing suitable for hot weather/athletic wear (because it is August in North Carolina and it is HOT!) (2 days and 2 nights)
  • Hat/sunglasses, and possibly a raincoat/umbrella if rain is on the radar
  • Personal toiletries- toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, sunscreen etc. (towels, sheets/bedding/pillows will be provided, and there are 2 indoor showers)
  • Optional: musical instruments, frisbees, soccer ball, book, hammock, cards etc. We will have some good down time to play and explore! 

I will be sure to bring bug spray, some sunscreen, and a few extra water bottles for folks who might need to borrow one! Everyone will also receive their own flashlight, but feel free to bring a headlamp or flashlight of your own as well if you’d like.
